"Bickmore Granary"
Wm Conrad Bowen
$799.00
Honorable Mention
Dimensions: 12 x 9 x 1 Artist's Statement about this work: From the street, you can see this old granary just a bit north & west of 9300 S 300 E, in Paradise, Utah! When Conrad was in high school, he worked for Fred Summers who leased Lee Bickmore's farm in the south east corner of town. Adjacent to this granary was a big old barn Conrad, Scott (Fred's youngest son) & Fred would fill from bottom to top with alfalfa hay bails every summer. The old barn stored about 7500 bails or 25-truckloads of hay through the winter; it's no longer there! The granary is in pretty sad shape these days, Conrad thought he'd paint it before it falls down & is gone, too!

Waiting at the Window
Jana Parkin
$200.00
Dimensions: 10 x 4 Artist's Statement about this work: At her uncle's wedding, my little grand-niece, Eleanor, was standing at the window, waiting for her turn to participate in the festivities. There was a sense of anticipation, coupled with a sense of being momentarily walled out, excluded. I loved her backlit figure, hair, and dress, the multi-colored light streaming through the windows, the soft reflections on the floor, and the way she was bathed in light.

I loved the quality of light, the array of color, and the joy coupled with peace in this simple but well-loved entryway.

Dimensions: 10.375 x 12.375 x 1 Artist's Statement about this work: Capitol Reef is one of my favorite places in Utah to paint. In this scene, I was struck by the beauty of the light cutting across the cliffs and I wanted to capture the variety of colors, both cool and warm that played on the cliffs and in the resulting shadows. It was an added bonus to see a streak of light escape across the foreground to light the tops of the desert brush.
